RE EXPO: The Group has applied for a community grant from the Scenic Rim Council for the amount of $5,000. This would be to cover insurance costs, hall hire, etc. for the Feb 28 th Expo.
The decision has been made to NOT stage a fashion parade at this particular expo, due to costing involved eg catwalk hire, also the amount of time spent away from their stands by the various members involved, the space taken in the hall etc.
Di Jacobs will follow through with further funding opportunities.
Non member expo booth price will remain the same as last year (double the cost of members)
Lynda has printed advertising material to be handed out through venues and at the gallery.
Discussion ensued re charges for booths for non TMWG members.
A motion was passed were by all members need to be financial by the end of the year before having their details published in the directory or on the website.
Di and Lynda Brownen attended the launch of the Scenic Rim new website and logo. They said it was a successful evening for networking and many contacts were made that will be useful regarding future funding and tourism.

Presidents Report:
Tom Baker advised the January bridal expo, normally held at the Brisbane City Hall, would be held elsewhere due to refurbishments underway at that venue. The Expos is planned for the Sofitel Hotel, Brisbane.
Therefore, assistance is requested from members at this Expo.
Members were also reminded that they will need to be financial by 31 December 2009 in order to be included in the next run of the brochure that will be distributed at the Expo.
Linda Pasfield questioned the progress of restoration work at the Brisbane City Hall and also the Sofitel venue itself. Some discussion followed about the benefits and disadvantages of the Sofitel as a venue, e.g. its size, location, parking etc. Questions were raised as the January Expo is felt to be particularly beneficial and well-attended.
It was mentioned also about a full page advertisement in the Queensland Brides magazine.
Wedding Gallery report:
Di Jacobs reported on the number of enquiries received in terms of the forms completed by prospective brides, stating 131 forms have been completed, with 152 other enquiries.
Di also raised the possibility of accessing other volunteers through an agency based on the Gold Coast.
Robert Simmonds raised a concern that certain of the volunteers have been promoting their own business during time served in the Gallery. This had been made known via feedback from clients who stated they had felt pressure from these particular persons trying to push their business onto them. No names were mentioned, other than it was not the volunteer staff.
General Business:
Marcia King welcomed Ross Turner, (videographer) to the Group, and invited Ross to speak about his business, which he did. Members welcomed Ross into the Group.
Di Jacobs spoke of a project from Angie Slater, called “My Wedding”, explaining this as a commercial venture in which providers are asked to advertise in a wedding planner-type publication, and that a discount could then be offered to brides who access their services from the planner. This may be via some form of discount card.
The Group would need to buy the planners (cost: $27.00 each), and would then on-sell them to brides at a cost to be determined ($49.95 was stated). The minimum purchase (by the Group) would be 10 planners.
While there is no set discount percentage, a concern was raised about direct sales of this type being made through the Gallery, from non-members.
It was decided that individual businesses (i.e. Group members) could decide whether to list in this publication, but that the Group itself would not do so at the moment, nor sell the publication through the Gallery for the time being. No formal vote or decision, as a Group, was taken.
Action: notification to be sent to Group members of the above decision, and that members are free to list, themselves, if desired.
A concern about the funds to be spent on the publication was that it may be better spent elsewhere, and an example was given as the 2010 TMWG Expo. The 2010 Expo is set for Sunday 4 th July 2010. It was noted that the 2010 would be expanded, and that the “back room” at the Vonda Youngman Centre would be utilized on this occasion in addition to the main auditorium.
TMWG website:
Differences in the listings of Group members were noted, in terms of the size of the entries on the website. It was proposed that there be a regular size for all entries, with a limit to the number of words.
The cost to change the blurb is $30.00 (payable to the web designer) or $50.00 if there are two listings – for one year.
Members were reminded to include a link to the Wedding Gallery on their website.
2010 Wedding Expos:
There was some discussion as to the most appropriate commercial wedding Expo to attend, and which was felt to be the most beneficial.
The TMWG Wedding Expo is set for Sunday 4 th July 2010, and the Group would normally attend the January/February Expo (normally at the Brisbane City Hall), but it was asked whether the funds would be better directed towards a second TMWG Expo, on Tamborine Mountain, rather than this.
The suggestion was that there be two TMWG Expos each year, in February and July, due to the success of the July 2009 Expo. January/February was felt to be if anything more beneficial than July in terms of numbers attending Expos.
It was decided therefore to check the viability of this in terms of the scheduling of other Expos at that time of year, as well as the availability of the venue (Vonda Youngman Centre).
A tentative date was set for the first weekend in February 2010, i.e. Sunday 7 th February 2010.
A further suggestion was made to add a line to emails from Group members, notifying clients of the February Expo, as occurred with the July 2009 Expo.
Further suggestions were made regarding placing information onto Facebook, twitter and various other “blogs”, all apparently free for advertising/promotion.
A concern was raised about the Centre being used by a Church group on Sundays, and regularly booked for that purpose, and a possible clash with the Expo.
A question was also raised as to whether to include a fashion parade in the Expo. Shirley Hans advised she has contacts with Gail Martin designs, and who may be able to provide wedding dresses and possibly models.
Action: Expo sub-committee to investigate the viability of holding an expo on 7th February 2010, at the Vonda Youngman centre, and report. Division of various tasks to be determined by the sub-committee.
Following this, members to add a line to their email addresses, advertising this Expo.
No further business.
